Russell Glacier
Just 16mi (25km) east of Kangerlussuaq is Russell Glacier, making it one of the few tourist attractions of this tiny airport town. When I say tiny, I mean tiny. This town is literally just about 500 people which largely supports the airport and some tourism. The glacier is currently active, advancing 82 ft (25m) yearly.
Getting to the glacier via a cold-weather specialized vehicle is pretty easy. There's a short walk after getting near to the glacier over some rocks and ice, but all in all it's pretty easy. I think this was my first time seeing the edge of a glacier up close. I didn't see any calving, but pretty cool to see.
