The characters on the wall are from Xiyuan Discipline Banner Vinaya Temple, or more simply Xiyuan Temple. The temple was originally founded in the era of Kublai Khan, Genghis Khan's grandson who heralded the Yuan dynasty. The temple is responsible for educating Buddhists and spreading the Buddha's teachings. Inside Xiyuan are temples and classical gardens.

When walking around the entrance to this temple, there were a bunch of practitioners dancing to music. I'm not sure if it was Tai Chi or some other type of dance, but the movements were definitely quite distinctive.
