A Land Of Quiet Dreams
Driving in Bhutan is a matter of patience. With Himalayan peaks, sheer drops and hairpin turns, the speed limits are probably excruciatingly slow in comparison to almost anywhere else in the world. 30mph is pretty much tops for the country.
While you can expect it to take some time to traverse the roads of Bhutan, one fringe benefit is that it's a bit easier to take photos while on the road. Tours in Bhutan come with a minimum spend of $250/day for most foreigners which includes a driver and guide as well as a hotel stay. With my hands free to shoot, I managed to take this photo out the window.
Bhutan is a relatively quiet place. It's peaceful and the feelings of tranquility and Buddhist spirituality are everywhere. It's one of the regions in the world I really want to go back to just to lose myself and make my way around, slowly, taking in the wonderful life and culture that makes up the Himalayas.
One of the many picturesque settings that show off Bhutan's dream-like beauty.
