Out Into The Harbor
Nólsoy is both the name of this Faroese Island as well as the name of the only village on the island. Just 4km (2.5mi) east of the capital Tórshavn, or 20mins by ferry, this island of some 250 is easily accessible. Visiting the island wasn't in my original itinerary, but with some spare time at hand, it was easily squeezed in to a short trip over for a couple of hours.
While it doesn't take long to walk around the charming little village and see everything, this island holds another little secret. It is home to one of the largest colonies of European storm petrels in the world. Ok, perhaps it's not exactly a secret, but if you want to seem them, you need to plan to spend a night on the island as the birds are best seen in the evening.
