A Rocky Prelude

Vagar Island is your typical entry point to the remote Faroe Islands. Home to the only international airport on the islands, it offers some spectacular landscapes to immerse yourself with. Don't forget to rent a car so you can discover these islands on your own terms and at your own pace. You'll likely be doing a lot of walking and hopefully some hiking as well, but there is plenty to see even if only by car.

Lake Sørvágsvatn, also known as Leitisvatn, is the largest lake in the Faroes. There is a relatively easy walking trail that runs along the eastern side of the lake and takes you all the way out to the ocean.

It's a great way to spend two or three hours to work off any restless legs you might have after your series of flights bringing you to Vagar Island. The air is crisp and refreshing, and you might even encounter some of the many sheep that share the landscape.
