Peacock Gate

In Rajasthan, it seems like every city has its own palace. I'm not sure if any two cities had the same ruler build their palaces, but irregardless they're a joy to visit. There's a real regal elegance and a sense of history. You can even see the British Colonial influences from time to time.

The City Palace of Rajasthan includes a few different key buildings, but is otherwise accessed via a maddening selection of gates in the outer walls of the pink city. I say maddening because, they're about wide enough to let two super narrow vehicles go through them at once. When a tour bus needs to get through though? Expect long delays.

This Peacock Gate provides access to the Chandra Mahal. The peacocks represent autumn, and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. There are three other gates in this courtyard, each one representing a different season and dedicated to a different Hindu god.
