Choeung Ek Mass Graves
These pits once held the victims of the brutal Khmer Rouge, killed between 1975 and 1979. This is the best-known of the sites known as The Killing Fields, where the graves of 8,895 bodies were found after the fall of the Khmer Rouge.
Walking through the memorial, there is a quiet sadness that fills the air. Life goes on, but seeing the bone fragments left behind, the innumerable skulls and weapons used as part of this genocide, is so shameful and saddening.
