Wordie House

The British established a base on Winter Island in 1947, the main hut of which was named "Wordie House" after Sir James Wordie. Wordie was a member of Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, a failed expedition but definitely one of the most famous in Antarctic history.

Wordie House itself is recognized as one of nearly a hundred Historic Sites and Monuments in Antarctica. Inside is a peek back in time to life at one of the first Antarctic research stations. Antarctica isn't really a place with a lot of man-made touristic destinations, nor should it be, but this is one of the few places I visited.
