With some clouds overhead, things don't look nearly as peaceful as they are. In actuality, the Faroes are supremely peaceful. The waters can get a bit rough, but visiting in the summertime was amazing.

If you plan to visit, I highly suggest renting a car. If your main goal is to go on 4hr+ hikes, then you could probably get by with public transit if you want to save some money. These islands are really meant to be explored both on foot and by car. There's lots of small villages spread out, and taking public transit between them would likely take a long time. Plus, you couldn't just pull over to the side of the road and take in views like this whenever you wanted.
