The Uneven Dirt Road

The Uneven Dirt Road

When deciding how I wanted to tour through Namibia - bush plane, guided tour, or self-drive, choosing the do the road trip was a decision I couldn't be happier with. I'd still love to go back to Africa and do some bush flying, as I feel that would be quite an interesting adventure, but besides the huge cost savings of driving myself around the country for two weeks, the freedom to stop whenever I wished for photos was amazing. There is so much beauty to be found in this country, and you don't have to try very hard to find it.

When driving on unpaved roads like the one here, it does require a bit more focus as if you're going above ~30mph, given how uneven the road is, you're going to lose traction and possibly control of your entire vehicle. For the flatter unpaved roads, you can go a bit faster, but it's not necessarily a great idea. Most accidents in Namibia are single-car accidents, and you don't want to be another statistic!

I previously covered road tripping through Namibia with posts on flat tires, fighting boredom, and desolation.
