The Maiko of Kyoto
Roaming the streets of Gion, I was on the lookout for Geishas, hoping to capture a few lasting shots. As quietly and mysteriously as this Maiko appeared, she quickly and gracefully passed by on the way to her evening appointment. There is a sort of magic that captures the eyes and mind when seeing one of these living embodiments of a time long ago. The white make-up, distinct hair style, and colorful kimono evoke imagery and imagination of what Edo period Japan could have been like.
