Group Trot

Group Trot

This is actually the second time in my one week trip to Iceland where I ran into a long line of horses. The first time, was a little surreal to me, as I was on the southern coast headed to the black sand beach in Vik. Suddenly traffic on the road slowed and I soon saw why - a long line of horses trotted by.

The second time (pictured), I was on my way to Landmannalaugar. I really love the Icelandic horse. What it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty. And of course, in Iceland you can also eat a horse if you're so inclined - the locals certainly enjoy it.

I'm still not entirely sure what was going on with this long line of horses. Best I can gather was that there are a number of horseback riding tours in Iceland, and perhaps this was just a re-positioning of the horses from the end of a tour back to the beginning for another group of tourists. Or maybe they just needed to stretch their legs a bit?
